Nurses and Health Care Assistants

Practice nurses at Cross Keys have primary care experience over many years. Cross Keys was one of the first in the country to employ nurses as part of the Primary Health Care Team. The present nursing team has expertise in Asthma, Coronary Heart Disease, Hypertension, Epilepsy, Thyroid disease, Stroke and Diabetes. They run screening programmes for all patients who are at risk. They carry out cervical smear screening, wound dressings, leg ulcer bandaging, phlebotomy, suture removal, contraceptive injections, depot injections, ECG's and many other procedures. They are more than happy to offer advice, when requested, on many aspects of disease prevention and leading a healthier lifestyle. Some nurses can give contraceptive advice. They are also able to access information from other sources if they don’t have the facts straightaway. Our Practice nurses are highly qualified and are updating their knowledge regularly. They work closely with the General Practitioners, District Nurses, Health Visitors, Midwives and Pharmacists to provide a complete service in the Community.
